Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic– (St E)
Job Summary: EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for an Maintenance Mechanic to provide services to include performing maintenance and repair of equipment at General Services Administration (GSA) Operations, Maintenance in Washington, DC. This position is covered by the CBA for Local 99. This is a part time role not to exceed 20 hours per week and 40 hours per month.
- Performs maintenance and repairs to all equipment as defined above as it pertains to his/her trade under the direct supervision of his/her immediate superior. He/she shall at no time be assigned or stand an engineer's watch.
- Repairs machinery or mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: examining machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose sources of trouble
Dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts; replacing broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock - Ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs
- Preparing written specifications for major repairs or to produce parts ordered from machine shops
- Reassembling machines and making all necessary adjustments for operation. In general, the work of a Maintenance Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience. Excluded from this classification are workers whose primary duties involve setting up or adjusting machines. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installs, services, and repairs environmental control units.
- Utilizes knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, and installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system.
- Execute watch tours in a timely manner.
- Monitoring, maintenance, and repairs of the BMCS systems on the site.
- Troubleshooting of equipment on site.
- Lamping/Re-lamping
- Performance of the preventive maintenance of equipment on site.
- Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on building equipment, machinery and components located in the interior or exterior of the building.
- Institute corrective action and/or inform his supervisor on any deficiencies found in the course of performing the job.
- Provide reports and documentation of completed work.
- Monitor subcontractors, as assigned, in their task and provide reports when needed.
- Perform other tasks as directed by his supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must possess one or more of the following certifications:

- Technician Certification
- CFC Certification
- Five (5) or more years of experience in maintenance and repairs on Commercial-Industrial building equipment to include but not limited to: Chillers, Pumps, Control Systems, Air Handlers, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, VAV's VFD's, Electrical Distribution Systems.
- Demonstrate the ability to read and understand Blueprints, schematics and specifications.
- Be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of Maintenance.
- Be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of Building Air Systems.
- Knowledge of Lock-Out-Tag-Out Procedures and devices
Physical Demands:
- Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 75 lbs.)
- Prolong, extensive or considerable standing/walking.
- Push/pull or move/lift equipment, supplies, and/or parts.
- Manual dexterity and mobility.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.
