ABOUT US: Emend Healthcare is operating a small mental health residential facility in the Canoga Park, CA area. We are a professional, agile and rewarding company looking for experienced employees. We invite you to join our team of health care professionals. We are seeking Behavioral Health Technicians to join our team and provide support to individuals struggling with mental health disorders. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of treatment services in cooperation with the mental health professional staff members.
SUMMARY: A Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for developing and maintaining a therapeutic environment with clients by providing supportive services to individuals experiencing mental health symptoms. Daily tasks include but are not limited to overseeing daily chores, coordinating and transporting clients safely to all daily activities, ensuring the clients arrive on time to all scheduled activities, monitoring and documenting client self-administration medications, facilitating therapeutic and life skills activities, identifying clients who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, random drug screening of clients, observe and report positive as well as any negative behavior in daily shift logs. A specialist must be able to motivate the clients, willing to be active in the day-to-day needs and duties of clients, and be technology proficient.
DUTIES: A Behavioral Health Technician has diverse responsibilities focused on client care, safety, and facility operations. Duties include conducting 15-30 minute round checks to ensure client safety and compliance, monitoring clients for behavioral changes, and observing and documenting medication self-administration. They facilitate therapeutic or educational groups, promote client engagement, and provide emotional support to foster a positive environment. Technicians prepare and serve meals according to dietary needs, assist clients with daily living skills, and ensure the facility's cleanliness by sanitizing common areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and client rooms. They document observations, group participation, and safety checks accurately while communicating effectively with the clinical team. In crisis situations, they respond promptly, manage incidents according to protocols, and ensure safety. Additionally, they plan recreational or skill-building activities, support clients in off-site appointments if needed, and adhere to facility policies, licensing regulations, and confidentiality standards. Ongoing training and staff collaboration are also essential components of their role.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A LIVESCAN BACKGROUND CHECK
Here are the qualifications required for this position:
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a Joint Commission compliant setting (e.g., hospital, medical, or detox/recovery environment).
3. Ability to read and understand the English language.
4. Possession of a current and valid CPR and First Aid certificate.
5. Must have a valid California driver’s license.
6. Able to stand, stoop, bend, squat, and reach for the purpose of performing job duties.
7. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to twenty-five pounds; should ask for assistance and use a dolly or cart for any heavy items.
8. Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination for the performance of job duties.
9. Experienced in self-administration medication process.
10. Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of seizures, pain, high anxiety, low and high blood sugars, or a critically dangerous medical emergency.
11. Ability to perform cooking and cleaning duties.
12. Able to stand and walk most of the working day and physically perform other job duties.
