SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHING ASSISTANT

We will develop in our scholars the skills, habits and values for them to graduate from high school, enroll in college and succeed in life.

REPORTS TO: Special Education Teacher & Director of Specialized Services
JOB GOALS:
- Maintain student records
- Administer all diagnostic tools
- Prepare the classroom and organize all instructional materials and equipment
- Monitor the classroom when the teacher must attend staffing meetings, provide consultation, etc.
- Attend all in-service and faculty meetings as requested
- Refrain from discussing confidential school business and student records during and outside of school hours
- Assist in providing reasonable accommodations, as needed, for students with disabilities (e.g. toileting, feeding, or other self-help activities)
- Lift and bend to complete tasks
- Pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training certification
- Assist in supervising students during bus trips as directed by the building-level administrator
- Chaperone during lunch, bus usage, recess/playground, and time frame just before/just after school
- Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships within the school environment
- Be an active part of the staff never tiring in efforts to have all EA scholars succeed academically
- Perform other routine or sporadic duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Have sufficient experience in related field
- Possess a passion for the work itself
- Thrive in an innovative environment
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Believe all kids can learn and achieve at high academic levels.
