Join our team at Emerald City Dog Training, a leading dog training center in Shoreline, WA! We are seeking a Dog Training Apprentice who is committed to developing their skills in efficient and effective dog training, with a focus on both celerity and balanced approaches to handling dogs of all temperaments.
This is an exciting, unpaid apprenticeship opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional dog training setting while learning proven techniques for training reactive, aggressive, and well-behaved dogs alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist experienced trainers in developing and executing balanced training plans that prioritize both speed and effectiveness.
- Handle dogs with a variety of behaviors, including aggressive and reactive dogs, with a focus on clear, efficient training methods.
- Observe and support trainers in identifying and correcting unwanted behaviors while reinforcing positive behavior.
- Provide assistance in daily training sessions, group classes, and one-on-one sessions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of dog body language and use that knowledge to guide training approaches.
- Take direction from lead trainers and implement feedback for continuous improvement.
- Keep detailed progress notes on each dog’s behavior and training status.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the training facility.

- Physical strength and stamina to manage dogs of varying sizes and behaviors.
- Comfort and confidence in handling aggressive and reactive dogs using balanced training methods.
- A solid understanding of K9 behavior and a desire to enhance your knowledge of dog training techniques that are efficient and results-oriented.
- A positive, committed approach to learning, with an emphasis on achieving tangible results through a balanced training philosophy.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow detailed instructions from trainers.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a high-energy environment while maintaining focus on training objectives.
Requirements:
- Experience with dogs (personal or professional) is preferred, but not required.
- Must be physically fit, with the ability to handle dogs in various training scenarios.
- Must be open to learning and applying balanced dog training techniques that focus on celerity and effectiveness.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and dedicated to the apprenticeship program.
