The Fleet Maintenance Manager serves as the strategic and operational leader of ECUA’s fleet operations, responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and lifecycle management of a diverse and mission-critical fleet. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with deep technical knowledge in fleet maintenance, a strong background in customer service, and a proven ability to implement modern inventory control systems. They will possess the leadership skills to inspire their team, instill accountability, and develop the next generation of fleet professionals within the organization. The candidate in this position will report to the Deputy Executive Director of Shared Services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Plans, coordinates, and prioritizes repair activities to ensure optimum output.

Develops and implements robust inventory control measures; routinely analyzes usage reports to ensure inventory optimization and cost control.

Collaborates with procurement to ensure high-quality, cost-effective purchases of fleet parts, services, and equipment.

Leads and supervises inventory control activities and coordinates the annual inventory process for Fleet Operations.

Establishes and oversees rigorous preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Drives innovation by staying ahead of trends in fleet electrification, telematics, and sustainability.

Oversees training and development programs to build technical and leadership capacity.

Maintains regulatory compliance and safety standards (e.g., DOT, EPA, OSHA).

Monitors and evaluates employee performance, implements coaching and accountability.

Prepares and manages a multi-million-dollar fleet budget, controlling expenditures.

Investigate vehicle incidents and ensure documentation and corrective actions.

All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience (must meet at least one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s degree 4 years of leadership experience in fleet maintenance operations
  • Associate degree 6 years of leadership experience in fleet maintenance operations
  • High school diploma or equivalent 10 years of leadership experience in a fleet maintenance operations role (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.)

Minimum of 2 years managing fleet parts inventory with demonstrated experience in usage analysis, purchasing, and reconciliation.

Proven customer service record with both internal departments and external clients.

Skilled in supervising, evaluating, and coaching maintenance personnel.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess or obtain at least a Class “B” CDL within six (6) months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Managed mixed fleets of 200 vehicles and equipment, including lifecycle and capital planning.

Oversaw fleet inventory budgets of $500,000 with 98% accuracy and achieved 10% cost savings.

Demonstrated success improving uptime, preventive maintenance compliance, and reducing downtime.

Proficient with fleet software (e.g., Fleetio, Faster, Limble, AssetWorks, Samsara).

Certifications: CAFM (NAFA), CPFP (APWA) preferred or in progress.

Recognized for leadership through Top 100 Fleet initiatives or similar honors.

Championed team development and led operational and cultural improvements via servant leadership.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch and climb or balance. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally to outdoor weather conditions. Working conditions are typically moderately quiet but may be loud when near operating machinery.

Leading and mentoring high-performing maintenance teams.
Analyzing and applying operational data.
Communication and interdepartmental coordination.
Managing budgets and resource planning.
Leading technology-driven and cultural change initiatives.

Plan, prioritize, and supervise complex maintenance operations.
Solve technical, logistical, and personnel issues.
Build strong working relationships and promote accountability.
Track KPIs and deliver measurable improvements.
Lead initiatives aligned with emerging trends and best practices.
