What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paid Summer JustLead Tutors position at Emerald Youth Foundation?
We’re glad you’re considering applying to become an Emerald Youth JustLead Tutor!
Since 1991, Emerald Youth Foundation has worked to support Knoxville’s youth and prepare generations of Godly community leaders. Emerald Youth has engaged more than 30,000 children and young adults in a variety of community programs over nearly three decades. Every year, Emerald Youth serves more than 3,000 children, teens and young adults in the heart of Knoxville through faith, learning and health programs.
Why do we need tutors?
Each year, students in our afterschool programs take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Assessment to determine their academic performance levels and identify skill deficiencies they may have. Emerald Youth strives to meet students' learning needs and help address learning gaps. Data shows that students who are paired with tutors make greater academic gains, which is why we need you! While with their tutor, students would be able to work on specific reading and math skills with resources and content catered to their individual levels. This individualized instruction has great potential to help students make significant progress towards their learning goals and close the learning gap, helping them have the skills to be more successful and confident. Summer is a great time to advance student learning and prevent summer learning loss.
If hired, where would I work?
Tutors would be placed at one of EY’s JustLead program sites. EY’s JustLead ministry is implemented through a network of more than 18 churches and faith-based organizations (FBOs) to raise up a large number of urban youth to love Jesus Christ and become effective leaders who help renew their communities. Structured and meaningful activities (i.e. academics, health, service-learning, discipleship, etc.) take place with young people at a church and FBO to achieve this holistic vision. JustLead placement will be determined based on review of candidate resume and responses to the application questions – as well as candidate availability.
What are the hours?
Tutors will work 8-10 hours per week during our summer day program hours of 9:00AM-3:00PM. Tutors should be able to work at least 3 or 4 days each week for 2-3 hours per day. Morning availability is ideal. Exact days and schedule per week will be determined based on candidate availability and EY students’ needs/availability.
What age group would I work with?
Tutors will be placed with 3 to 6 students who are attending either elementary or middle school. One-to-one tutoring will be prioritized in most cases, to allow students to receive the individual support they need. In some cases, tutors may work with groups of 2 students.
What is the pay?
Tutors are paid $17.00 per hour.
When do the positions start?
Tutors will start in orientation and training the week of May 19th and officially begin at their assigned site locations the following week on May 27th. Tutoring resources and curriculum will be provided to tutors based on individual student needs.
Is there an end date?
Yes. July 18th. However, there would be an opportunity to return for the Fall 2023 semester at the discretion of the Education Specialist.
