Position Summary
The Department of Fine Arts at Indiana University South Bend is seeking to fill the position of lecturer in the visual arts. Candidates should be an artist-scholar specializing in graphic design and have experience in at least one other area. The candidate should understand aesthetics, visual literacy, the history of art, and contemporary issues in art as related to graphic design and fine art practices. The faculty member will teach four courses per semester, contribute to service, and use their expertise to teach and mentor fine art students, particularly those with a concentration or minor in graphic design. The ability and willingness to teach in the department’s foundation core curriculum are expected.
The Fine Arts Department at IU South Bend offers BFA concentrations in Graphic Design, Photography, Printmaking, Painting & Drawing, and Sculpture, a Bachelor of Art Education, and a BA in Fine Arts. The mission of the Fine Arts Department balances traditional and innovative approaches while merging technical skills with conceptual and critical understanding. We educate students about the power of visual arts to inform and affect society. We also have an exceptional gallery space. Graduates find employment in creative fields in the South Bend region. Some students go on to graduate education. Many alumni become visual arts professionals.

Basic Qualifications
Required Basic Qualifications
- An MFA or terminal degree in studio art with a specialization in graphic design or a related area of visual art by the time of appointment is required.
- Expertise in the Adobe software package is required. Indiana University uses the Adobe Creative Cloud suite on Mac and Windows platforms.
- Expertise in typography, layout, visual communication, and industry-standard practices is required.
- A willingness to continually update and maintain knowledge of software with professional development.
Preferred Basic Qualifications
- Experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.
- Professional experience in graphic design and teaching experience.
- Demonstrated effective teaching and communication skills applied to the art studio classroom.
- Classroom activities include but are not limited to idea generation, image production, critique, and discussion.
