What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Technician position at Emergency Plumbing Heating & Air?
Reporting to our HVAC Supervisor, the person in this position is responsible for following company procedures and completing an average of 3-5 service calls per day from residential and commercial customers, following dispatch. The technician provides an excellent customer experience by delivering quality work on time, leaving the work area better than it was found, taking pictures, filling paperwork out properly, providing pixie dust, and collecting payment at the end of service. An EPHA HVAC Technician will mentor apprentices by teaching best practices for exceeding company goals.
• Accurately diagnose system problems in a timely and efficient manner. • Advise customers on issues related to repairs, installation, equipment design, and available options that are within the code. • Braze metal parts or components or solder parts to repair defective joints and leaks. • Cut materials according to specifications, drill holes in floors, walls, or roof to install equipment and/or piping, using power saws or drills. • Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders. • Ensure that all work complies with current building codes, regulations, and permitting requirements. • Estimate time, material, or labor costs for jobs. • Follow all steps of the Field Daily Process (Perfect Service Call) in detail and with confidence. • Inspect and test systems to verify system compliance and confirm proper operation. • Lead and train apprentices in all aspects of the job. • Measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe/tubing, using pipe fitter's tools and/or other appropriate bending tools. • Order parts and materials, as required, when performing same-day repairs (10-minute search.) • Order, pick up, deliver, and install materials and supplies needed to maintain equipment in good working condition. • Present accurate findings and description of required services before work is performed. Provides options, advice, recommendations, and estimates. • Properly signs equipment in and out for usage. • Run after-hours calls and participates in the on-call rotation. • Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports or hangers, according to specifications. • Stand inspections when applicable. • Support Shop Inventory Manager by keeping all stocked and upcoming job parts organized, labeled, and in the proper location, and maintain/improve shop cleanliness, organization, and flow. Technician (HVAC) • Adjust system controls to settings recommended by the manufacturer to balance the system and ensure optimal performance. • Assist/oversee operators of cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment when necessary. • Connect HVAC components and equipment to fuel, water, condensate or refrigerant source to form a leak-free connection and/or complete circuit. • Identify opportunities, present options, and acquire commercial and residential maintenance agreements, equipment replacements, and IAQ (indoor air quality) and other system enhancements. • Install auxiliary components to heating or cooling equipment, such as dehumidifiers, expansion or discharge valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues, stokers, thermostats, humidistats, or timers. • Install, service, maintain, and repair a wide range of residential and commercial HVAC equipment to improve efficiency. Includes changing filters, cleaning ducts, and adjusting refrigerant levels. • Install, service, or repair air purification systems, such as specialized filters or ultraviolet (UV) light purification systems; pipe systems to support alternative energy-fueled systems, such as geothermal heating or cooling systems; self-contained/hybrid ground/air source heat pumps to minimize carbon-based energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions. • Interpreting various measurements, such as pressure, temperature, and wiring diagrams, and communicating installation instructions. • Mount compressor, condenser, and other components in specified locations on frames, using hand tools and acetylene welding equipment. • Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming according to EPA 608 requirements. • Perform preventive or general maintenance procedures, such as cleaning, power-washing, or vacuuming equipment, oiling parts, or changing filters.
