Job Title: Security Officer
Reports To: Deputy Director of Emergency Services

JOB SUMMARY
The Security Officer will conduct operations at the Court house facility to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and the public. The Security Officer will participate in security related training, conduct entry screening of Court facility visitors, and routinely patrol the facility and its grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only)
1. Display sound judgement and remain calm during stressful situations.
2. Able to interact with the public and screen visitors before entrance to the facility.
3. Have good de-escalation skills, both physical and verbal.
4. Detect and prevent suspicious activities.
5. Patrol both interior and exterior areas of the facility.
6. Respond effectively to emergencies and alarms within the facility and its grounds.
7. Operate equipment to include but not limited to X-ray devices, CCTV, and radios.
8. Safely handle and document items collected from members of the public that need to be securely stored, to include but not limited to firearms, knives, and other weapons.
9. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

· Be 18 years of age or older
· Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
· Be able to pass a background check and drug screening, in accordance with federal, state, and local law
· Have a valid driver’s license,
· Ability to operate radios and computers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; feel, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The position’s tasks involve the ability to exert moderate but not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects and materials of moderate weight. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to perform work both inside and outside the building, as the situation dictates.
