With offices across North Carolina, the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist.
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited PTA program
- Licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant in North Carolina
- Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
- Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
- Current CPR Certification
- Excellent documentation and communication skills
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following
- Measure the patient’s motor function
- Record strength and muscle performance
- Assist physical therapists in developing treatment plans
- Observe patients and write progress reports
- Evaluate the capability of patients to function independently
- Assist patients in carrying out specific exercises
- Treat patients with varieties of techniques, like stretching and massage
- Help patients with equipment and devices, like walkers
- Use and care for braces or prostheses (artificial body parts)
- Use electrical stimulation and ultrasound
- Educate patients on how to exercise properly to strengthen muscle and improve mobility
- Teach the patients and their family members what to do at home after treatment
- Ensures timely communication of patient needs, concerns to physical therapist for appropriate change in the patients plan of care
- Maintains compliance with infection control policies and procedures
- Performs patient education when appropriate including oral and written education related to diagnosis, procedures, and/or medications
- Ensures all documentation accurately reflects the patient encounter and plan of care
Other
- Follows all applicable department and practice policies and procedures
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality guidelines established by the practice
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Computer input of patient information
- Participates in mandatory staff functions as directed by manager/team lead
- Performs all other tasks and projects delegated or assigned by manager
- Maintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all duties
- Maintains compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain current certifications, licensure, etc.
- Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
