Emerging Tech is seeking a Senior Healthcare Integration Engineer to play a pivotal role in modernizing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. You’ll architect, validate, and deploy seamless integrations between legacy VA systems (VistA, CPRS), Cerner Millennium, and emerging health tech—ensuring millions of veterans receive uninterrupted, data-driven care.
What You'll Do:- Lead Integration Strategy for VA’s EHR Modernization (EHRM-IO)
- Architect HL7/FHIR-based interfaces between Cerner, VistA, DoD Health Systems, and medical devices, adhering to VA technical standards and security protocols.
- Conduct technical reviews of vendor-delivered solutions (Cerner, SI partners) to ensure compliance with VHA interoperability requirements.
- Mitigate risks in large-scale EHR deployments by optimizing data flows across inpatient, ambulatory, and consult workflows.
- Design high-availability interfaces for imaging systems (PACS, DICOM), lab systems, and IoT medical devices.
- Collaborate with VA stakeholders to modernize legacy modules (e.g., Patient Centric Management, CPRS) while preserving critical functionality.
- Develop test plans and cutover strategies to minimize disruption during go-live events.
- Advise on FHIR APIs, cloud integrations (AWS GovCloud, Azure), and AI/ML-driven data pipelines.
- Document as-is/to-be architectures using Visio, Confluence, or EHRM-IO frameworks.
- Mentor junior engineers in VA-specific change management (ITIL) and configuration control.
What You'll Bring:
- 15 years in healthcare IT integration (VA/DoD/Cerner/Epic environments preferred).
- Proven success designing interfaces for EHRs (Cerner Millennium, VistA), PACS, or medical devices.
- HL7 v2.x, FHIR, CCDA, DICOM
- Interface Engines (Cloverleaf, Mirth, Corepoint, Rhapsody)
- SQL, Python, or Java for data transformation
- Legacy VA systems (CPRS, VistA, PCM)
- Interfacility consults, imaging workflows, or FHIR API adoption
- Ability to translate clinical needs into technical specs for non-technical stakeholders.
- Cost-conscious mindset—balance innovation with budget/resource constraints.
- Cerner Certified Architect, Epic Bridges, FHIR Developer, or PMP.
- Experience with VA’s EHRM-IO program or DoD MHS Genesis.
- DevSecOps pipelines for healthcare systems.
