Job Functions
- Communicates with physicians and staff in a timely and professional manner.
- Oversees the daily activities of physicians and staff
- Assists with the orientation of new staff members to the department.
- Coordinate meetings for physicians and staff
- Coordinate schedules for covering physicians
- Coordinates and updates all providers appointment schedule through Centricity/Athena
- Coordinate schedules for medical assistants to ensure appropriate staff coverage for physicians
- Ensure staff and physicians are up to date with any and all policy /procedure changes
- Is available to other staff as a resource person and responds to requests for direction in their specialty area.
- Sets an example as a role model to other staff in action, word, and demeanor
- Influences staff to meet goals and standards of the department.
- Tactfully advises a staff member if an incorrect/inappropriate action is observed and corrected.
- Represents staff as needed, and reports current or potential problems.
- Acts as a liaison between staff and other departments.
- Answers phone calls and retrieves and distributes messages appropriately.
- Orders necessary office and medical supplies and ensures security of all medications.
- Identifies insurance coverage and payer requirements for hospital services, processes insurance verification and other basic benefits information for patients, as necessary.
- Oversees daily physician billing
- Oversees documentation necessary for the Medical Records Department
- Maintains and supports patient’s rights to care, privacy and respect.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Associates Degree accepted
Experience
- One to three years of management/supervisory experience required with a preference of medical office management
- Supervisory experience with direct reports
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented with strong ability to multi-task required.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
- Computer skills required.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and moderate keyboarding is required.
- Knowledge of GE Centricity to access and utilize electronic medical records preferred.
- Knowledge of Athena systems
- Knowledge of lean methodology
- Knowledge of patient billing, account processes, third party billing and revenue cycle preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidential information required.
