Emerson Jr/Sr High School is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to launch and lead a new course pathway in Engineering & Design. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore STEM concepts through hands-on, real-world problem-solving and design thinking. - Design and teach Engineering & Design courses that integrate STEM principles, including topics such as design thinking, problem-solving, prototyping, and technical communication.
- Develop and implement engaging, student-centered lesson plans that incorporate real-world challenges and hands-on learning.
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages inquiry, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
- Collaborate with faculty members in related disciplines (e.g., science, mathematics, computer science) to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
- Integrate current and emerging technologies (e.g., CAD, 3D printing, robotics) into curriculum and instruction.
- Assess student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessments; provide meaningful feedback to support growth.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and curriculum planning to contribute to the school’s academic mission.
- Engage with families and the broader school community to share student successes and promote STEM education.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Science, or a related STEM field.
- Passion for teaching and inspiring middle and high school students.
- Commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices that support a diverse student population.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
- Teaching certification (or eligibility for alternate route to certification — Emerson supports and welcomes alternate route candidates).
- Experience working with design software, makerspace tools, robotics, or other STEM technologies.
- Prior teaching or instructional experience in STEM-related fields.
- Familiarity with project-based learning and interdisciplinary instruction.
