Position Overview:

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for driving forklift equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, boom, scoop, lift beam and swivel hook, fork grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch, to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials and receiving, issuing, and controlling inventory.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Safety Sensitive position.
  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials or hooks tow trucks to trailer hitch, and transports load to designated area.
  • Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
  • Inventories materials on work floor, and supplies workers with materials as needed.
  • Issues materials in the computer system that are supplied to workers.
  • Weighs/counts materials or products and records weight/quantity on tags, labels, or production schedules.
  • Properly identifies, puts away and labels material.
  • Responsible for bin locations in computer system and ensures location accuracy.
  • Loads or unloads materials onto or off pallets, skids, or lifting device.
  • Works as Receiving Clerk back-up and relieves Receiving Clerk for lunch.
  • Lubricates equipment, recharges batteries, fills fuel tank, or replaces liquefied gas tank.
  • Observes safety and security procedures. Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines.
  • Reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Follows policies and procedures and supports organization’s goals.
  • Completes Cycle counts as requested.
  • Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
  • Consistently at work and on time. Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Follows instructions; responds to management directions.
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Meets productivity standards. Strives to increase productivity.
  • Contributes to building a positive team spirit. Puts success of team above own interests. Supports everyone’s efforts to succeed.
  • Maintain cleanliness in assigned area.
  • Maintain all safety standards.
  • Support other departments as necessary.
  • Perform additional assignments in accordance with the Shop Supervisor’s direction.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Inventory software.
  • Ability to enter data into computer after training.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Obtain and/or maintain Forklift Certification.
  • One (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

Work Environment: Manufacturing Plant Floor. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   • Consistent driving of forklift in facilities and proximity to other heavy machinery and using various tools and hardware. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to dust and other particles found as part of the wood and metal manufacturing process. The employee is frequently exposed to humid conditions (non-weather) and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to variable weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
