Our client is one of the largest Asphalt contractors in the Chicagoland area, providing services including grinding, grading, milling, hot-in-place recycling, mix design, stone and base work. They are a family-owned business that has been in operation for more than 50 years.
POSITION PROFILE:
They are seeking an experienced Asphalt Superintendent with a strong background in managing Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) projects. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of relevant experience and a proven track record of overseeing successful asphalt paving projects. This role demands excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Position Responsibilities:
- Oversee all phases of asphalt paving projects to completion, ensuring adherence to IDOT and INDOT standards and specifications.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of asphalt paving crews, including equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors. Foster a safe and productive work environment.
- Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring timely completion of tasks and efficient use of resources. Adjust schedules as needed to accommodate unforeseen delays or changes.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the highest standards of workmanship. Conduct regular inspections and address any issues promptly.
- Monitor project budgets, control costs, and ensure financial efficiency. Prepare and submit regular financial reports to senior management.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards. Conduct safety meetings and enforce safety protocols.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing their needs and concerns promptly. Provide regular project updates and ensure client satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily logs, progress reports, and change orders. Ensure all paperwork is completed and filed appropriately.
Position Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience in asphalt paving, with a focus on IDOT and INDOT projects.
- Relevant certifications in asphalt paving, project management, and safety (e.g., OSHA) are highly desirable.
- Proficient in project management software, construction scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- In-depth understanding of IDOT and INDOT standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse workforce.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
