Description
At the Emmaus Community of Pittsburgh, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for implementing accounting procedures while applying generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting principles. Duties include completing complex journal entries and overseeing the general operations of the Accounting Department. The Senior Accountant will report directly to and work closely with the CFO to develop and implement strategies impacting the financial strength of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist in the administration of the organization’s financial and accounting policies and procedures.
Assist with the development of accounting policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance with requirements and regulations; implement necessary revisions to policies and procedures.
Perform accounting functions related to fixed assets, depreciation, payroll and employee benefits. Oversee all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems to ensure compliance with tax, financial reporting and audit requirements.
Provide direction and leadership within the Finance Department, including tasks relating to accounting (payables and reporting), revenue cycle, representative payee function, and fixed assets (facilities and vehicles). Review work products of the finance department to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Responsible for coordinating month-end closing procedures and account reconciliations.
Responsible for month-end financial statements and applicable reports for management and Board of Directors.
Responsible for quarterly general ledger reconciliations.
Prepare external reports for reimbursement from various funding sources, including grants.
Monitor risk and internal controls to ensure agency policies and procedures are adequate to prevent fraud, waste and abuse of funds.
Monitor fiscal controls necessary to manage the day-to-day operations for accounts payable, reimbursement, and procurement functions.
Monitor efficiency and accuracy of the revenue cycle including claim submission through receipt of payment and take steps to implement corrective action as needed to overcome barriers to full payment for services rendered.
Work with the CFO to develop and implement performance metrics, best-practice policies, standard operating procedures, and tools to ensure quality management, timely reporting and success in performance-based contract environment.
Support CFO with annual financial audit and other reviews conducted by various external entities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field plus three (3) years of accounting experience is required.
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and education will be accepted.
- CPA Desired.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks or comparable accounting software
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid driver’s license. Must maintain driver’s license during employment.
- Submit an application for criminal clearance from Pennsylvania State Police Central Repository prior to employment.
- Complete and maintain all required training modules according to regulation guidelines within the set timeframes.
