Custodian - Part-Time / Ola
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs daily and long-term maintenance and care of buildings and grounds. All other duties and requests are assigned by head custodians and the building principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates and cares for a variety of equipment including vacuum cleaners.
- Sweeps, vacuums, and mops all floors.
- Dust surfaces and around objects but does not move objects daily. A more thorough dusting can be done once a month.
- Washes inside and outside windows, blinds, walls, as needed.
- Empties and cleans inside and outside waste receptacles.
- Cleans restrooms, drinking fountains, and all plumbing fixtures.
- Ensures that paper towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers are full of product.
- Loads and unloads furniture, supplies, materials, etc.
- Help set up rooms for meetings.
- Removes snow and applies ice melt from walkways as needed.
- Performs general maintenance work on buildings.
- Performs yard maintenance and outside appearance of the grounds. (mowing, weed eating, and removing trash from the grounds)
- Performs maintenance on school property. (playground, shed, painting)
- Reports potential safety and health problems to supervisors.
- Completes records and reports as required.
- Opens and secures buildings as required.
- Deals with students, parents, staff, and others in a positive, encouraging manner.
- Knows and follows school policy and chain of command.
- Acts ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
- Performs such school-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Safety Requirements
Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor and to coordinate work with principal and others.
- Ability to describe orally or in writing the cleaning, maintenance, or repair problems as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.
- Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
Qualifications Profile:
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance is desirable.
All non-certificated staff not under contract are under “at will employment”. Their positions shall be considered in all respects “employment at will” and the employee is subject to discharge by the district at any time without cause. The “employment period” and other descriptions and termsoutlined inn their job descriptions shall not create a property right in the employee and such are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as employment continues.
