Description

The Diversion Officer will work to support the system to achieve its mission, goals, and vision. This role is responsible for coordinating the components of the drug diversion prevention program and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The position will work closely with the Corporate Director of Pharmacy Regulatory and Compliance to evaluate and enhance the program as needed. Key responsibilities include: - Lead and coordinate the System Drug Diversion Prevention and Intervention Committee (DDPIC). - Serve as the primary point of contact for all aspects of drug diversion prevention and detection. - Help facilitate activities of the Drug Diversion Response Team during events. - Conduct routine audits of controlled substance (CS) activities, including procurement, distribution, administration, and destruction, to ensure compliance with policies and segregation of duties. - Audit CS discrepancies and distributive functions performed by pharmacy personnel, utilizing manual and automated reports. - Perform proactive CS monitoring and analyze potential diversion cases, providing data and insights for escalation and resolution. - Develop and review policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices for CS management to support departmental and organizational initiatives. - Collaborate with Risk Management and leadership to conduct Root Cause Analyses after diversion events, identifying opportunities to mitigate risks. - Create and deliver educational materials for staff, leaders, and providers regarding CS processes for onboarding and annual competencies. - Train and onboard local controlled substance compliance employees and other relevant personnel. - Collect, track, and present key performance indicators (KPIs) related to diversion prevention across the health system. - Utilize analytics and automated reports to investigate and respond to incidents of suspected loss or diversion. - Participate in the Opioid Stewardship Committee (OSC) and act as a liaison between the OSC and DDPIC, contributing to alignment and collaboration. - Work with diversion detection software vendors to optimize diversion detection tools and troubleshoot issues. - Collaborate with leaders to ensure adherence to all federal and state laws regarding the prescribing, procurement, storage, administration, and handling of controlled substances. - Provide recommendations to maintain legal and regulatory compliance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: One year of relevant experience, Pharmacy Specialty Board certification or ASHP. One year of experience will be waived for candidates who have been employed as student/interns within the Emory Healthcare system.
  • Certification & Licensure: - Active Georgia Pharmacist license or eligibility for licensure with attempt to register for next available Georgia Pharmacy Practical Examination and passing of the MPJE within 60 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required within 1 year for all positions with Code Blue coverage responsibility.
