Description

The Aquinas Center of Theology (ACT) at Candler School of Theology at Emory University seeks a visionary, collaborative Executive Director to manage its operations and advance its mission of enhancing the Catholic scholarly presence across Emory University and the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

 

The Executive Director will lead the internal and outward-facing activities of the Aquinas Center of Theology, overseeing the mission, administration, and programs of the organization and securing adequate resources to ensure its growth. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors, is a liaison to the Candler School of Theology, and regularly collaborates with Candler’s Catholic Studies program.

 

An ideal, qualified candidate will be deeply engaged in Catholic life, well-versed in Catholic theology, and an active participant in contemporary Catholic theological conversations about the present and future of the Church. The candidate will have knowledge of and engagement with Catholic intellectual traditions and enthusiasm for building diverse community collaborations.

 

KEY RESONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manages ACT's daily operations, budget, and finances, working in collaboration with staff and relevant officers and entities within the university.
  • Pursues and implements creative ways to enhance the Catholic scholarly presence across Emory University and the region though programs, activities, opportunities for lay engagement, and the dissemination of cutting-edge scholarship.
  • Administers and advises students in the undergraduate Catholic Studies minor (qualified candidates also may be invited to teach one course per academic year).
  • Collaborates with the Catholic Studies program and other faculty and staff at Candler School of Theology through programming, educational outreach, and other events.
  • Develops and executes successful fundraising strategies and cultivates new and existing relationships with donors.
  • Expertly stewards resources, including donor gifts, for the financial viability and fiscal integrity of ACT.
  • Regularly reports to the Board of Directors, maintaining effective communication and providing timely and accurate information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in a discipline related to program work and five years of experience, which includes at least three years in a leadership role OR equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • PhD (or equivalent) in Theology or related discipline is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of and engagement with Catholic intellectual traditions
  • Experience with marketing/publicity, overseeing events, and program management
  • Budgetary experience including hands-on budget management skills, budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Experience building or participating in diverse community collaborations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Commitment to acting with integrity and treating all people with Christian charity
  • Dedication to being a good steward of resources, including the financial gifts entrusted to the Aquinas Center from donors
  • Eagerness to listen and adapt to the needs and concerns of others

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
