Description

The Manager of Operational Due Diligence and Risk will be an integral member of the Emory Investment Management (EIM) investment team. EIM manages Emory University's endowment with AUM of $11 billion .

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the endowment's operational risk functions.
  • Has responsibilities associated with operational due diligence, data analytics, risk management and technology solutions.
  • Works independently with some supervision and may be assigned to train or guide a junior investment analyst.

Operational Due Diligence:

  • Conducts operational due diligence of Emory's prospective and existing external investment managers, including: reviewing due diligence materials such as audited financial statements, regulatory filings, fund documents, policies and procedures, valuation methodologies, and background check findings, among others.
  • Participates in and leads calls and in-person meetings with senior investment manager personnel, service providers, and other related parties.
  • Evaluates the overall quality of systems, controls, infrastructure and personnel in order to identify issues relevant to the overall investment decision.
  • Applies knowledge and experience to a wide variety of alternative investment managers and operating environments to assess operational risks and identify potential concerns; and documents and presents the findings of each ODD review, highlighting strengths and including specific advice and recommendations based on industry best practices.

Investment Transaction Services:

  • Supports investment transaction services including deal management, structuring, legal review and negotiation.
  • Works with outside counsel, investment professionals, and members of the investment and operations team to address legal, tax, regulatory, and business issues for all new investments.

Data Quality and Analytics:

  • Designs and performs data analysis to evaluate and optimize the portfolio's risk profile, performance, and overall exposure.
  • Devises and implements strategies to maximize data quality, completeness, and accuracy.

Portfolio Operations and Other Responsibilities:

  • Assists with internal and external reporting needs, including Investment Committee Report preparation and review.
  • Collaborates on technology and infrastructure projects, including researching, recommending and implementing potential solutions to support asset allocation, performance analysis, risk solutions, fund manager research and portfolio management.
  • Leads and owns ad hoc projects as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in finance or accounting, and five years of related work experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • MBA, CFA, CAIA, IMDDA, and/or similar certifications or coursework are also highly desired.
  • Operational due diligence, portfolio operations and accounting, or risk reporting experience preferred; high level of professional maturity, integrity, judgement, and discretion required; strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple complex tasks with a focus on detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office suite programs.
  • Specific experience using Microsoft Excel for data analytics, aggregation, and presentation is required.
  • Experience using CRM, portfolio analytics, Bloomberg and other software is a plus.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
