Description

The Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University seeks a leader for a program of translational research in adoptive cellular therapy. The leader is expected to be an accomplished scientist/physician-scientist in the field of cell therapy, who will provide leadership to the cell therapy program both for cancer and regenerative medicine applications. The leader will foster a collaborative environment and provide scientific oversight and leadership for a newly renovated GMP facility at Emory and will help support studies of innovative cell therapies manufactured at Emory. The leader will have access to a generous package supporting recruitment, infrastructure and supporting investigators in execution of cell therapy trials. The leader will have an academic appointment in the department of Hematology/Medical Oncology, commensurate with experience.  Leadership
  • Able to articulate and carry out a compelling research, education, and clinical vision for cellular therapy in oncology
  • Pursues diversity, equity, and inclusion in each of these missions
  • Understands the organizational landscape and can anticipate and articulate the critical issues, opportunities, and risk assessments for adoptive cell therapy approaches into patients
  • Leads the faculty and staff of the Department conducting cell therapy research and models standards for exemplary patient care, research and education
  • Exhibits an appreciation for the need for preparation, collaboration, planning, communication, and benchmarking of results in his/her approach to problem solving and program building
  • Is skilled at recruitment and retention, faculty development and values the role of leaders in mentoring
  • Champions new initiatives or directives for advancing cell therapy approaches for cancer within our department and across the institution at large
  • Appreciates and understands the value of collaboration and team building with other professions and disciplines – skilled at getting individuals, teams, and an entire department to perform at a higher level and to embrace change
  • Negotiates skillfully to achieve a fair outcome or promote a common cause
  • Communicates a compelling vision and is committed to what needs to be done; inspires others, builds motivated, high-performing teams; understands what motivates different people
  Management
  • Ability to manage a complex program of cell therapy in a matrixed environment with success measured in well-defined metrics
  • Skilled at organizing and managing human resources, including resolving conflict
  • Understands and passionately advocates for compliance with institutional and external regulations
  • Responsible for management of program budgets
Academic Credentials
  • M.D. or Ph.D. required. For M.D. candidates, possession of, or eligibility for, a medical license in the State of Georgia.
  • National recognition in the field of cellular therapy research and research as evidenced by involvement in scholarship to the discipline and national recognition such as academic societies at a national level
  • Candidates must be eligible for a research, teaching or clinical academic appointment within the School of Medicine.
