Description

An open position in the Lowance Center for Human Immunology at Emory University School of Medicine. The candidate will join our multi-disciplinary team of immunologists, biologists, medical doctors, and bioinformaticians.

 

The Project: The candidate will lead projects on human immunology recently funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health in the Ghosn Lab (www.ghosnlab.science). The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art technologies on multi-omics single-cell sequencing assays, and Hi-D flow cytometry. The project is focused on human B cells and antibody-secreting cells (or plasma cells), using donor samples and in vivo and ex vivo models. The results from your project should provide new insights into the development and function of the human immune system in infants and adults and impact the development of new vaccines targeted to either children or adults. In addition, your studies will shed light on the mechanisms that lead to autoimmunity and other hematological disorders that are predominant at different developmental ages. More details about the specific scientific questions will be provided during the interview process.

The laboratory is in an open-space concept on the second floor of a new sunlight-drenched research building at Emory (HSRB building). The state-of-the-art equipment and resources are located in the Ghosn Lab or the same building. The work schedule is flexible. Salary is commensurate with experience. The Ghosn lab members also have access to resources from our affiliated institutions, Emory Vaccine Center, Emory Primate Center, Georgia Tech, Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, Children’s Hospital, Lowance Center for Human Immunology, etc.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
