Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated post-doctoral fellow with experience in epidemiology, environmental health sciences, or biostatistics to assist with research projects on perinatal, environmental, and social epidemiology. The fellow will be mentored by and work closely with Dr. Stephanie Eick in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia. The successful candidate should have a strong background in epidemiology, with experience in statistical modeling in R or a related software. Experience with perinatal epidemiology, environmental health, or biomarkers is a plus, but is not required.

 

Potential research focus include:-Examining chemical and non-chemical stressors in relation to perinatal and child health outcomes. Exposures of interest include, but are not limited to, persistent organic pollutants, phthalates, insecticides, pesticides, psychosocial stressors, and socioeconomic status.-Mechanistic underpinnings of the relationship between chemical and non-chemical exposures and perinatal and child health outcomes, including clinical biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress.-Leading or assisting with multi-cohort meta analyses-Mixtures analyses and mediation

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

 

The ideal candidate is a recent or prospective doctoral graduate (Ph.D. or equivalent qualification) in an appropriate field, such as epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health sciences, or a related field. Successful candidates must have excellent analytic skills, scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills, and an ability to work effectively with independently and as part of a research team.
