Job Summary: The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will assist people supported in leading self-directed lives as participating and contributing members of their communities connecting them with people and places in the community of common interest. The DSP will encourage the development of physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills and behaviors that enhance inclusion in the community and will help people supported achieve their identified outcomes/goals while maintaining high-quality person-centered practices in accordance with company standards, mission, and vision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting people supported to increase their independence and to exercise their rights by teaching skills in various activities of daily living (ADLs) in the home, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Assisting in maintaining the health, hygiene and grooming of people supported by teaching new skills, while also providing support with medication.
- Foster a safe and positive environment that prioritizes health, safety, and dignity of individuals in care.
- Promote community engagement through participation in community activities and events.
- Monitor wellbeing by observing both physical and emotional health, reporting concerns to appropriate staff.
- Encourage independence by supporting individual independence, enhance communication skills, and life skills.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of the care provided.
- Work collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals and family members to deliver comprehensive care.
- Experience working in healthcare or direct care settings.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Compassionate, patient, and reliable nature.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and computer skills.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if applicable).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to lift and assist individuals with mobility needs.
