Hiring Mental Health Practitioners for the following locations:
- Anoka County
- Minneapolis
- Saint Paul
To become a Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) for ARMHS (Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services), individuals can qualify through various pathways outlined in the regulations. Here's a breakdown of the different ways to qualify:
1. Relevant Coursework
Main Requirement: Complete at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields.
Additional Requirements (Must qualify using one of the methods listed below):
Option 1: Accumulate at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability. If work experience is derived from working with adults with traumatic brain injury or developmental disability, additional training must be completed.
Option 2: Demonstrate fluency in a non-English language spoken by at least 50% of clients and complete additional training.
Option 3: Work in a day treatment program.
Option 4: Complete a practicum or internship focused on behavioral sciences with direct interaction with clients.
2. Work Experience
Main Requirements: Accumulate hours of experience in service delivery to individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability.
Additional Requirements (Must qualify using one of the methods listed below):
Option 1: Accumulate 4,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability. If work experience is derived from working with adults with traumatic brain injury or developmental disability, additional training must be completed.
Option 2: Receive treatment supervision weekly until reaching 4,000 hours of experience, with at least 2,000 hours specifically providing services to individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability. If work experience is derived from working with adults with traumatic brain injury or developmental disability, additional training must be completed.
3. Graduate Student Internship:
Only Requirements: Be a graduate student in behavioral sciences or related fields, formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical training.
4. Bachelor's or Master's Degree:
Main Requirements: The practitioner is qualified by a bachelor's or master's degree.
Additional Requirements (Must qualify using one of the methods listed below):
Option 1: Hold a master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
Option 2: Hold a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or related fields and complete a practicum or internship requiring direct interaction with adults or children, focused on behavioral sciences or related fields.
Additional Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Maintain valid auto insurance
- Must have a reliable vehicle
- Must be willing to travel around the metro area
- Must be adaptable to a variety of environments and settings in the community.
- Ability to assess both physical and emotional needs, demonstrating your holistic approach to client care.
MHP Responsibilities and Functions:
1. Service Delivery:
- Deliver comprehensive Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) to individuals with diagnosed mental health conditions.
- Focus on promoting independent living through essential skills such as mental illness symptom management, interpersonal communication, community resource utilization, relapse prevention, budgeting, healthy lifestyle practices, nutrition, transportation, household management, and employment-related skills.
- Provide and supervise mental health services in the recipients' home and/or community while maintaining a presentable attire.
2. Clinical Supervision:
- Attend weekly clinical supervision sessions with the clinical supervisor.
- Frequency and mode of supervision (weekly or monthly, via Zoom or in-person) to be determined by the clinical supervisor or administration.
- Mandatory attendance, regardless of the chosen frequency.
3. Documentation:
- Complete various documentation, including Functional Assessments, Individual Treatment Plans, Crisis Plans, Level of Care Utilization System (LOCUS), Progress notes, etc.
- Promptly address any corrections if deemed inadequate by the clinical supervisor.
- Sign completed documents; all documentation must be finalized within 72 hours of the initial visit for timely and accurate record-keeping.
