Empire Bakery Commissary, LLC (“EBC”)
EBC’s Mission Statement: To make memories by creating hand-decorated cakes and desserts for every occasion and to be an employer of choice that attracts, retains, and rewards the best team members.
EBC decorates occasion and dessert cakes, cookies, and other dessert items for food retailers. Our retail ready items are in demand as retailers look for ways to improve their in-store labor efficiency by outsourcing dessert item production.
EBC has been in operation since 1997, currently employs about 250 Associates and is Certified SQF level 2 and Kosher certified. Our facility is in Rocky Mount, VA, approximately 30 minutes south of Roanoke, VA, 75 minutes north of Greensboro, NC, and 2.5 hours north of Charlotte, NC.
Leadership Role
Our Plant Manager is responsible for Supporting our growth, developing a strong people culture, ensuring our customers’ satisfaction, and delivering bottom line results by driving the activities of several functional areas, including Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Quality. Reporting to the Executive VP/General Manager for EBC, this newly created position will work alongside the Director of Finance, Director of Sales, and Senior HR Manager to provide strategies and prioritization across the management team, as well as accountability for business results, food safety and company policies and procedures. This leader will have a strong, direct understanding of our associates, our products, and our processes. This leader will demonstrate and focus on transparency, change management, respect and inclusion, integrity and honesty, and safety.
Outline of Duties
• Assist the General Manager in developing overall business objectives for EBC
• Develop and implement strategies to accomplish the overall objectives and clearly communicate these to all stakeholders in the plant.
• Create and implement initiatives to improve productivity, product quality and plant capabilities.
• Create a environment of teamwork, mutual support, candor and operational excellence at all levels of the organization.
• Develop plans, tactics and strategies to drive teamwork, open communication and mutually supportive actions among the various teams.
• Provide tools, resources, training, support, observation and mentorship to all direct reports to maximize their personal effectiveness and job satisfaction.
• Develop and prioritize plans to reduce ingredient waste and manage labor.
• Ensure all quality and regulatory standards are applied appropriately, training is provided expectations are being reinforced.
• Drive Continuous improvement by implementing processes and executing activities such as Kaizen, Fishbone, 5-Why, etc.
• Support Maintenance on equipment issues, process improvements and prioritization of maintenance work orders.
• Partner with Human Resources through activities to attract and retain top talent at all levels of the business.
• Assist in prioritizing and managing the Capital Budget.
Experience/Education/Skills & Abilities Requirements
• Minimum of 7 years of management in a food manufacturing business, familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practice and Food Safety protocols required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
• Decisive, action oriented, results focused, ability to lead and inspire.
• Critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills required.
• Empathetic, people-focused, flexible and dynamic.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage Metrics.
• Demonstrated ability to lead production, quality and warehouse teams in a hands-on fashion and an ability to train supervisors to lead.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 applications, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Office Teams.
• Working knowledge of budgets financials statements, forecasting and sales planning; and
Basic Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies, Kaizen, 5S, Continuous Improvement.
• Possess a proven ability to identify, retain, develop, and lead teams.
• English/Spanish bi-lingual proficiency would be a plus.
