What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metal Personnel position at Empire Die Casting Co.?
Summary:
The function of Metal Personnel is to perform the cleaning and basic maintenance of pots, furnaces, and/or reverbs. Ensure metal delivery to machines as needed and perform any metal alloy changes as requested. Metal Personnel have the plant ready for production after weekend or holiday shutdown. They also control all necessary movement of materials and ensure the accuracy of counts, paperwork, and procedures related to the product.
Duties but not limited to:
- Transport metal ingots to pots/furnaces or storage areas via tow motor/forklift
- Load specified amounts of metal and flux into furnaces or clay crucibles
- Maintain pots/furnaces
- Position equipment such as ladles, grinding wheels, pouring nozzles, or crucibles, or signal other workers to position equipment
- Read temperature gauges and observe color changes; then adjust furnace flames, torches, or electrical heating units as necessary to melt metal to specifications
- Skim slag or remove excess metal from ingots or equipment, using hand tools, strainers, rakes, or burners; collect scrap for recycling
- Other duties as directed by supervisor/manager
- Ensure safety guards are on furnaces and bolted down
Skills & Qualifications but not limited to:
- Tow motor experience is required
- Must be reliable and have a good attendance record
- Able to read and understand written directives
- Must be able to work in varying temperatures
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work flexible schedules including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary
- Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
