BASIC FUNCTION:
To provide broad-based paraprofessional support to administrative law judges (ALJs) conducting written appeals, hearings and pre-hearing conferences for appeals of denials of certification as a Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) by New York State’s Division of Minority and Women’s Business Development (DMWBD). Other tasks to support ESD’s administrative hearings unit as needed.
WORK PERFORMED:
Responsibilities can include some or all of the following:
- Manage hearings calendar for ALJs on Outlook.
- Manage SharePoint and other databases for the unit.
- Prepare and send Notices of Hearing and Pre-Hearing Conferences.
- Monitor the unit’s shared mailbox and respond to inquiries.
- Perform legal research and maintain unit’s files.
- Prepare initial drafts and/or proofread legal correspondence pertaining to hearings.
- Coordinate and schedule pre-hearing conferences with all parties.
- Provide broad-based paraprofessional support to the unit as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level required: Associate degree and successful completion of paralegal certificate program. Excellent computer skills a must including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Zoom, Web-Ex, SharePoint, etc. Three years’ experience as a Paralegal, preferably with litigation experience in a court or law firm, or the equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge required: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and superior organizational skills are a must. Ability to work collegially and effectively in a team setting. Ability to meet tight deadlines. Detail oriented.
