What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Technician position at Empire?
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM CST, with occasional rotational weekend work (1–2 hours).
Are you passionate about laboratory work and looking for a hands-on role in a cutting-edge R&D environment? We are looking for a Laboratory Technician with experience in biological laboratory procedures. This role involves collecting and processing samples, working with live biological cultures, and maintaining lab equipment. Candidates should have strong laboratory skills, sterile technique knowledge, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Sample Collection:
- Collect liquid culture samples (typically from shake flasks), transfer them into tubes, and store them in a freezer.
- Weekend on-call rotation (every other weekend) for sample collection if required by scientists (approximately 1 hour).
Laboratory Procedures & Equipment:
- Operate autoclaves for sterilization.
- Use pH meters for measuring acidity/alkalinity of samples.
- Prepare reagents and solutions for testing.
- Work with live biological cultures, following sterile techniques.
Data & Communication:
- Maintain accurate records of sample collection and processing.
- Utilize Microsoft Teams and Excel for communication and data tracking.
- Follow safety protocols and demonstrate strong biosafety awareness.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or relevant lab experience preferred.
- Prior experience working in biology labs is highly preferred over chemistry labs.
- Internships and academic lab research may be considered, but professional lab experience is preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Experience with autoclaves, pH meters, and reagent preparation.
- Strong understanding of sterile techniques and working with live cultures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Excel is a plus.
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently after training.
- Strong safety mindset and experience with lab safety procedures.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $21.15 - $25.00 per hour
