Position Summary:
The Healthcare Advocate serves as a trusted ambassador of the health plan, ensuring individuals receive the care, support, and resources they need. This role involves navigating healthcare systems, educating patients about their rights and treatment options, and advocating for equitable and cost-effective healthcare services for both members and clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Advocacy:
- Represent patients to ensure their needs and preferences are heard and addressed.
- Advocate for patient rights, including access to quality, transparent, and cost-effective care.
- Education and Guidance:
- Provide patients and families with information on medical procedures, insurance coverage, and community resources.
- Simplify complex healthcare policies, benefits, and regulations into understandable terms.
- Resource Coordination:
- Assist patients in navigating the healthcare system, including scheduling appointments, connecting with specialists, prescription sourcing, and managing high-cost claims.
- Collaborate with advocacy services to ensure members receive necessary resources.
- Communication Facilitation:
- Act as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to ensure clear, effective communication.
- Address patient concerns or grievances and work toward resolving conflicts or misunderstandings.
- Policy and Compliance:
- Stay informed on healthcare policies, regulations, and industry trends to support advocacy efforts.
- Ensure all interactions and recommendations adhere to legal and ethical standards.
- Data Collection and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, needs, and outcomes to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications:
- Education & Certification:
A background in healthcare is required, but a bachelor’s degree is not necessary. Acceptable qualifications include:
- Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification
- Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) certification
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification
- Other relevant healthcare credentials or experience
- Experience:
2–4 years of experience in a healthcare, social work, or patient-facing role is preferred. Advocacy or case management experience is a strong asset.
- Skills:
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare systems, insurance processes, and patient rights.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Work Environment:

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
