Health Information Management - Team Lead


Job Summary:

NYC Ambulatory Healthcare facility seeks an experienced Medical Records Team Lead to coordinate the daily operations of the HIM team in our Brooklyn location.   The candidate is responsible for assisting HIM Manager & HIM Director with implementing and maintaining the center’s health information management systems, including but not limited to computers and medical records.   Ensures that the center’s health information is kept confidential and complies with federal and state regulations.  Emphasizes consistent adherence to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish and revise medical record workflows to ensure that records are complete, up to date, readily accessible, secure, and compliant with center policies and regulations.
  • Participates in the recruitment and hiring of staff.
  • Assists the HIM Manager and HIM Director with staff evaluations during probation and, at minimum, annually.
  • Maintains current knowledge of state and federal regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Collaborates with center personnel to improve health information management systems.
  • Troubleshoots MIS problems of HIM operational concerns.
  • Provides the administrator(s) and management with statistical data.
  • Other duties as requested.

 

Education and experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years related work experience in HealthCare Setting
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Word, Excel, EMR/EHR systems
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or a related field, preferred
  • Experience utilizing Health Information systems
