Job Summary:
The specialty clinical pharmacist position will play a vital role focusing on optimizing medication use and improving patient outcomes. Must have knowledge of Specialty Pharmacy, Patient Assistance Programs and the Prior Authorization process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Medication Management - Evaluate and interpret prescriptions to ensure appropriate medication therapy for positive outcomes.
- Patient Care - Monitor patients' health through an electronic medical record system and able to recommend, when appropriate, alternative medications for better patient outcomes.
- Patient Assistance Programs - Facilitate alternate sourcing of payment through manufacturers programs
- Specialty Pharmacy - Able to identify alternative drug therapy within the same class of medication that helps minimize expense. Step Therapy
- Drug Utilization - Identify potential drug interactions and/or adverse effects and take action to prevent occurrences or manager their outcomes
- Counseling - Provide effective medication counseling to patients to ensure adherence to therapy
- Conduct Research to stay abreast of new drugs and treatment protocols.
Education and Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- A deep understanding of pharmacology and mediation therapy management
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate dispensing and monitoring of medications
- Ability to identify and resolve medication-related issues
- High proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
- Minimum 3 years' combined experience in ambulatory care and retail pharmacy setting
