What are the responsibilities and job description for the HEAT TREAT position at Employment Solutions?
Employment Solutions is in search of motivated individuals for a number of Furnace Operator operator positions in the greater Elmira, NY Area.
The Furnace Operator is responsible for controlling heat treating furnaces to alter the properties of selected materials. This individual will operate the furnaces, draw ovens, pit draws, and any other related equipment. A Heat Treat Operator is also responsible for performing hardness checks according to work instructions. The parts are quenched in oil/polymer within the furnace and then removed after prescribed time.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Handles metal parts with precision and accuracy while inspecting for imperfections or defects.
Wears personal protective equipment as required by company policy and OSHA standards.
Loads and unloads baskets and prepare composite loads.
Checks loading condition of incoming loads from previous process.
Operates the transfer car to move loads between furnaces and loading tables.
Changes or discharges loads to or from furnaces.
Operates furnaces as instructed and monitors alarm conditions.
Logs production in data form in casemate controller.
Checks as quenched surface hardness for conformance to blueprint specifications and record data.
Checks final hardiness after draw for conformance to blueprint specifications and record data.
Tags loaded containers correctly.
Operates the forklift and any other equipment as required with certification.
Reports equipment malfunctions to maintenance or Heat Treat supervisor.
Responsible for cleanliness and housekeeping of work area.
Performs routine preventative maintenance, as necessary.
Performs other duties/ tasks as directed by supervision or management.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
One (1) to two (2) years of experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment with proficiency using basic manufacturing tools and equipment such as measuring instruments: calipers, micrometers, fixed or telescopic gauges, comparators,
Understanding of standard measurement principles and blueprint reading, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
Ability to work in oils and cutting fluids, constant standing and bending, and lifting heavy bar-stock into feeding tubes.
Basic math skills with or without a calculator.
Basic knowledge of federal and state regulations (OSHA, EPA).
Strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills.
Ability to keep the work area neat and clean and eliminate potential hazards.
Ability to conform to company policies/ procedures and OSHA standards with the goal of zero safety related incidents.
Ability to work various schedules including nights and weekends.
Ability and capacity to train and expand knowledge based on company specifications and requirements.
