Department of Residential Life at Emporia State University is seeking applicants for a Custodial Specialist position. The Custodial Specialist position plays an integral role in the residence hall communities and the overall experience of residents. Ideal candidates should have the ability to efficiently clean and maintain spaces, provide excellent service to residents and guests, work independently, take initiative, and advance the Residential Life mission. Reporting to the Residential Life Custodial Supervisor, the Custodial Specialist position is a key member of a collaborative team within Residential Life.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas. Steam clean, shampoo, and/or spot clean rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture as needed. Ensure that hallways, rooms, stairwells, restrooms, elevators, and other areas remain clean. Ensure the cleanliness of restrooms by sanitizing sinks, mirrors, doors, walls, and other features. (20%)
- Dust, polish, and sanitize mirrors, furniture, doors, door frames, walls, ceilings, vents, and window ledges. Refinish, strip, buff, and/or seal hard surface floors as requested. (20%)
- Manage the cleanliness of outdoor sidewalks, walkways, and entrance areas by removing leaves and other debris including snow and ice. (20%)
- Conduct regular maintenance and secondary repairs on custodial equipment. Inform supervisors of repairs that need to be conducted by members of the Maintenance team. Transport recycling and waste containers to disposal areas. (20%)
- Restock restroom supplies as necessary. Ensure that cleaning supplies are available and that buildings are secure during and after cleaning activities. Perform inspections on fire extinguishers, exit signs, and emergency lights, in locations where applicable. Conduct additional custodial tasks needed to keep facilities and other assigned areas sanitary. (20%)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED,
- Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently
- Comfort working in a dormitory setting
- Standing or walking for 7 or more hours per shift
- Movements that require manual dexterity, trunk strength, wrist-finger movement
- Ability to respond positively and quickly to resident and guest needs
- Assist with deep summer cleaning of residence halls
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $15.03 hourly
