Description

SUMMARY

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing medical support and professional nursing care to patients undergoing the detoxication process. Specializes in the provision of assessing client care through the level of care, pain management treatment throughout the initial detox process. Works collaboratively with the medical care team to provide individualized care to clients. Provides services under the supervision of the Nurse leadership, NP, MD. Ensures the health and safety of all clients throughout their care. Participates in care team meetings when necessary.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, including transcribing and administering routine and prescribed medications in accordance with procedures established by the Medical Director, NP and Nurse leadership.
  • Analyzes and interprets data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
  • Monitors and provides interventions for clients in the event of medication side effects, including adverse drug reactions.
  • Communicate with outside providers including obtaining and sending pertinent information, scheduling appointments, submitting orders, pharmacy orders, etc.
  • Administers medications and monitor detoxification process.
  • Facilitates Health Education client groups.
  • Maintains a safe and sanitary environment utilizing infection control techniques and universal precautions.
  • Demonstrates empathy and responsiveness to patient concerns or complaints. Takes time to listen and pays attention to patients personal and special needs.
  • Screens for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Pre-screens new patients for appropriateness for admissions based on physical assessment data, health history and daily assessments including but not limited to pain, suicidal, danger to self or others.
  • Records required documentation in electronic medical record accurately and timely.
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations and protects client information.
  • Participate in regular department meetings and staff meetings.
  • Facilitates medication education for new patients and for all other patients starting new medications.
  • Provides routine nursing care under the supervision of the nurse leadership, NP, Medical Director.
  • Encourage efficient utilization of supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
  • Maintains effective communication between outside medical services and the facility.
  • Attends in-service education programs as assigned to learn new forms, procedures, developmental skills, etc.
  • Has good work habits: get things done in a timely, efficient manner with no excessive absences; is on time for scheduled shifts and prepared to begin work.
  • Functions well as a team member and contribute positively to the morale of staff.
  • Performs additional duties, as deemed necessary by director.
  • Exhibits cheerfulness, positivity and friendliness to co-workers, clients, and visitors at all times.
  • Completes control logs and emergency equipment logs timely and accurate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize, respond and assist in crisis situations and provide interventions.
  • Demonstrates adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand others diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a Practical Nursing Degree.
  • Active Massachusetts licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • 2 years’ addiction treatment center experience preferred  
  • 2 years’ IOP/PHP experience preferred  
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certified on first day of placement in role
