Position Summary
An Engineering Intern role at Empower offers a unique opportunity to learn about and immerse yourself into the technical and mechanical aspects of working for the largest 503A compounding pharmacy and a Food and Drug Administration registered 503B outsourcing facility, specializing in the manufacturing, distribution, and dispensing of medications that promote healthier, happier lives.
You will develop a robust technical foundation and gain hands-on experience monitoring key system parameters, organizing data, identifying problems, and determining root causes. As an Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintaining process systems. Your work will ensure the smooth functioning of our equipment and processes. By contributing to the optimization of our manufacturing processes, you will contribute to our mission to produce innovative medications.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Supports ongoing Empower operations through technical assistance and support of process equipment including vial washers, fillers, tunnels autoclaves, ovens as well as utilities such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, purified water, and pure steam.
- Will develop technical knowledge in process, mechanical, and maintenance aspects for process systems.
- Assists in troubleshooting for process systems: information gathering, monitoring key system parameters, organizing data, learning how to identify problems, determining root cause, understanding/evaluating data to recommend solutions, and assists with implementing solutions through the Empower change control system.
- Participates in engineering projects such as preparing a scope of work, design and engineering work/calculations, cost estimates, preparing change control documentation, and coordinating project activities.
- Participates in commissioning efforts.
- Adheres to Current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) at all times during the manufacturing of products.
- Escalates any serious cGMP deficiencies, product defects or related actions (e.g., quality related complaints, recalls, regulatory actions, etc.) in a timely manner.
- Complies with department sanitation and health requirements.
- Follows department safety requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
- Pharmaceutical and bio-pharma industry experience preferred.
- Proficiency in actively participating in and managing tasks and operations within the production area preferred.
- Solid technical knowledge and effective planning and work management skills are required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Skills-Excel, Word, Outlook.

Experience and Qualifications
- Must currently enrolled in a degree plan in an engineering discipline such as chemical, mechanical, industrial or controls engineering or a hard science such as physics or chemistry.
- 0 -2 years of practical experience in the application of engineering principles to systems.
- 0-2 years of experience in troubleshooting operational and design issues within an industrial environment.
