Position Summary

As a Manager of Analytical Research and Development at Empower, you will shape the future of healthcare by leading the development and validation of analytical methods for innovative drug substances and products. This role offers the opportunity to create high-quality medications that improve lives while working with a dynamic, collaborative team. Your leadership will ensure rigorous standards and regulatory compliance, bringing life-changing treatments to the market and mentoring the next generation of scientific leaders.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the design, optimization, and validation of robust analytical methods for characterizing drug substances and drug products across sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, utilizing techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-VIS), ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines including United States Pharmacopeia (USP), European Pharmacopeia (EP), and International Council for Harmonisation (ICH).
  • Manages the execution of analytical testing programs to support formulation development, stability studies, and release testing, including the evaluation of compatibility samples, formulation intermediates, drug substances, and final drug products.
  • Supervises critical analytical assessments such as content uniformity, assay development, impurity analysis, and other product-specific tests to ensure the highest quality standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments to guarantee optimal performance, adherence to quality standards, and regulatory compliance in all aspects of laboratory work.
  • Mentors and provides technical leadership to junior scientists, fostering skill development, ensuring technical excellence, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement within the laboratory team.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the workday and frequently use their hands and fingers to handle or feel in order to access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee is regularly required to move about the office and around the corporate campus. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical proficiency in analytical methodologies (e.g., HPLC, UPLC, GC, GC-MS, FTIR, UV-VIS, dissolution testing, particle size analysis, sterility techniques) and instrumentation/software (e.g., Empower, ChemStation), with strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as ICH guidelines, USP and EP standards, Food and Drug Administration requirements, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in analytical method development and testing within pharmaceutical or healthcare settings required including at least 3 years in leadership.
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field; Master’s or Doctor of Philosophy in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Hazardous Drug Handling Certification and cGMP Training Certification are preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI in daily work to drive efficiency, solve problems, and enhance decision-making—adept at integrating AI-powered solutions into all workflows.
