Position Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager plays a critical role within Empower, ensuring that our manufacturing processes uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. This position is central to our commitment to people, service, quality, and innovation, as it oversees and continuously improves our safety programs, policies, and procedures. By maintaining stringent safety standards and regulatory compliance, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager helps Empower deliver exceptional products that improve the lives of our customers.
This role involves a dynamic range of responsibilities, from developing and implementing safety training programs for employees at all levels to managing occupational safety and health program elements. The Manager conducts thorough investigations of safety incidents and near misses, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence. Additionally, this position is responsible for the comprehensive management of waste disposal documentation, conducting regular safety inspections, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Implements, maintains, and revises an ongoing review/maintenance of the company’s safety programs, policies, manuals, procedures, certifications, data, and records.
- Ensures full and timely compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Establishes and promotes a culture of safety.
- Develops essential awareness and training programs to all employees, from office staff to senior leadership.
- Oversees all occupational safety and health program elements and activities.
- Conducts and investigates safety incidents, employee injuries, near misses and/or situations where safety procedures were not adhered to; and completes the appropriate documentation.
- Oversees post-accident, incident, or near-miss follow-up to ensure effective corrective actions are implemented, preventing recurrence of similar situations.
- Responsible for all waste disposal documentation such as Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), controlled substance waste documentation, and waste manifests at all locations.
- Conducts inspections, assessments, surveys, and program evaluations to identify potential hazards or unsafe conditions.
- Manages and guarantees the completion and proper documentation of FIT testing as required.
- Coordinates employee work-related injury care with designated company medical providers.
- Communicates with managers, supervisors, and Human Resources regarding incidents and/or injured employees work status.
- Manages regular follow-ups with employees on restricted duty and ensures restrictions are followed.
- Ensures incident reporting documentation is completed/documented and disseminated to the appropriate persons.
- Files all necessary reports with relevant agencies and customers.
- Establishes and delivers new employee safety onboarding and orientation with appropriate training.
- Ensures complete, current, and accurate records supported by a comprehensive and fully executed/maintained records retention program.
- Achieves superior safety ratings while ensuring the company maintains complete underlying integrity and compliance to and good standing with these standards and guidelines.
- Reports to leadership on the status of safety compliance, identifying any issues, risks, and opportunities for enhancing the safety culture.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the organization.
- Monitors and evaluates employee performance. Provides feedback, as necessary.
- Partners with department director to evaluate department headcount needs and participates in the interviewing process.
- Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement including measures to help minimize future risk.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial safety.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a current good manufacturing practice environment.
- Experience and knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health standards, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, DEA controlled substance wastes regulatory requirements, etc.
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs and related training, fitted to Empower Pharmacy’s unique operations and exposures.
- Experience with Windows applications and Microsoft Office programs such as Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- OSHA 10- & 30-Hour General Industry Training Authorization preferred.
