Position Summary

Our Metrologist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the precision and reliability of our equipment and instruments, which is critical to maintaining the highest standards of quality and innovation at Empower. This position is fundamental in upholding our commitment to producing top-tier medications that improve the health and well-being of our communities. By expertly managing the calibration schedule and developing robust calibration methods, the Metrologist ensures that every piece of equipment operates at peak performance, supporting our mission to expand access to quality, affordable medication.

 

In this dynamic role, you will collaborate with various departments, including Engineering, Quality, Production, and Laboratory personnel, to evaluate and calibrate critical instruments. You will develop and refine calibration standard operating procedures (SOPs), Master Specifications, and work instructions, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy and suitability. Your expertise will also be instrumental in creating and managing Calibration templates within our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), working closely with the Preventative Maintenance Coordinator and Engineering teams to conduct regular reviews and internal audits.

 

The Metrologist will analyze data trends to optimize calibration intervals, ensuring consistent operation without impacting business efficiency. Additionally, you will support quality and production systems by conducting thorough follow-up reviews and addressing any non-conformance issues in collaboration with Quality Assurance (QA) and Operations teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains the calibration schedule for all equipment and instruments on-site, ensuring equipment is within the calibration period.
  • Assists in developing calibration methods and techniques.
  • Assists in developing calibration SOPs and work instruction for equipment.
  • Develops calibration Master Specifications based on User Requirements.
  • Conducts routine reviews and updates of current SOPs and Work Instructions to ensure suitability and accuracy.
  • Collaborates with Engineering, Quality, Production and laboratory personnel in evaluation and calibration of critical instruments.
  • Develops calibration templates in CMMS according to Calibration work instructions and Master Specifications.
  • Collaborates with the Preventative Maintenance Coordinator and Engineering to perform regular reviews and internal audits to confirm accuracy of the information in CMMS.
  • Works with contracted services on equipment calibration by developing specification, obtaining quotation, shipping, receiving of the equipment with the initiation of appropriate paperwork for the process.
  • Facilitates instrumentation calibration/recertification with external vendors, internal and/or external resources, and local system owners.
  • Assigns calibration interval dates based on data and trends to increase or decrease frequency of recalibration and reverification.
  • Supports quality and production systems and equipment by conducting follow-up review with the departments and their needs to maintain consistent operation without impact to business.
  • Completes non-conformance reports and works with QA and Operation during investigations for out of tolerance conditions.
  • Complies with Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), Good Documentation Practices and other local systems, procedures, and instructions.
  • Completes calibration before due date, ensuring budget and schedule are within constraints.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and repair in a cGMP regulated environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This position requires occasional overtime to include weekends and emergency situations. Employee must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Associate degree from college or technical school or 5 years related experience/ training or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Knowledge and experience in two or more calibration disciplines, required.
  • Experience with General Calibration and Maintenance Schools, Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment, or Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical and bio-pharma industry, and/or aseptic filling experience, preferred.
  • Ability to obtain Classified Cleanroom Gown Qualifications at 503A and 503B sites.
  • American Society of Quality Certified Calibration Technician preferred.
