Position Summary
The responsibility of the non-sterile pharmacist is to direct and monitor all daily operational activities of the non-sterile compounding department. This position is also responsible for overseeing the staff during compounding operation.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs pharmacy inventory management, prescription compounding, dispensing processes, supply management and delivery processes.
- Ensures that all procedures, records, and pharmacy non-sterile labs are in compliance with all state, federal, and industry standard requirements.
- Prepares weekly production scheduling of product and continually makes changes as need to accommodate the daily peaks and troughs.
- Develops a system for any bulk compounding or batch preparation of drugs.
- Facilitates and helps with the promotion and triage of end of day orders.
- Ensures that all equipment, as prescribed through regulation is available and in good working order.
- Responsible for safety and risk management in the pharmacy:
- Enforces policies and procedures to ensure safety of the public concerning any action by the pharmacy staff members within the pharmacy.
- Restricts traffic in the prescription area to authorized personnel only.
- Ensures that the pharmacy has a system to dispose of chemicals, expired drugs, and hazardous waste in a manner so as not to endanger the public health.
- Ensures the proper storage of all lab materials, including drugs and chemicals.
- Ensures risk assessments are conducted regularly to prevent potential work hazards.
- Ensures that drugs and/or devices are dispensed and delivered safely and accurately as prescribed.
- Evaluates the appropriateness of dosages, directions, and therapy.
- Product verification.
- Responsible for inventory and supply management.
- Ensures completion of annual inventory on all chemicals and drug products as required by state and federal law.
- Ensures that no outdated drugs are dispensed or maintained within the active inventory of the pharmacy, including prescription and related nonprescription items.
- Receives stock and manages inventory, including but not limited to recordkeeping.
- Takes directions and follows through with mandates by the company made by the Pharmacist-in-Charge and Leadership.
- Provides management with routine updates regarding the productivity and efficiency of operations.
- Initiates recommendations on purchasing of new equipment and improvements.
- Develops written policies and procedures to establish responsibilities of pharmacy technicians and other personnel in area.
- Develops a system to assure that all pharmacy personnel responsible for compounding and/or supervising the compounding of pharmaceuticals within the pharmacy receive appropriate education, training, and competency evaluation.
- Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
- Creates a culture of continuous improvement and provides coaching and mentorship.
- Ensures all licensing requirements are up to date per state and federal requirements.
- Maintains up to date knowledge on industry trends and technologies.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.

Experience and Qualifications
- B.S. in Pharmacy or PharmD.
- Licensed with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (additional state licenses preferred).
- 5 years of direct experience; compounding, management.
