What are the responsibilities and job description for the Managing Partner position at Empowered Café?
We are seeking a unique person to be our managing partner of Empowered Café. The Café has a specific mission to train, and employ adults with Down Syndrome synergizing a connection between working adults and younger families interacting in the same space. We’ll be opening this summer in the Parkside building at Mueller situated in front of the park and around the corner from the Thinkery. We think that we have a great location and a good plan to make this venture successful, now we need the right person to lead it! The space will also house a wealth advisory firm, Carlin Wealth Management Group, and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas offices and activity/classroom.
Our envisioned candidate should be entrepreneurial and will ideally have had experience leading a coffee shop or café as well as experience and enjoyment being involved in special education or social work.
Compensation will include salary and profit sharing from the café.
Responsibilities will include:
- Running the day-to-day business
- Managing inventories, deliveries, and vendors
- Prior to opening: Researching and implementing available government and non-profit supports for staff and their training
- Expected resources:

- Disability Employment Grants and Tax credits
- Managing schedules and staff coordinating and providing training and support to staff
Hours on site will be ~6 am - 3 pm 7 days a week to be shared and coordinated with an assistant manager, this should include daily set up and clean up time.
