Job Purpose:
Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals’ rights and benefits.
Essential Functions:
Provide supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living, which includes, but is not limited to, self-care skills, social skills, recreation skills, community skills, and domestic skills for 5 year old twins.
Empowering People’s Independence is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work with a family with school-aged twins in the Self-Direction program. This would involve 1:1 service time with each child. The primary location would be within the Syracuse area. These individuals are seeking Respite staff to help with morning routines. The individuals and their family are looking for a dedicated staff member that will become a long-term member of their care team.
We are looking for individuals that are dependable, patient, and enthusiastic. Prior experience working with individuals that have cognitive and/or developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder is strongly preferred. Bi-lingual/Spanish speaking applicants and applicants that are experienced with a total communication model are also preferred. The member’s parent and team could also be willing to train the right applicant. Reliable vehicle and a New York State driver's license are required. Background check, fingerprinting and DMV record check will be conducted prior to hire by the agency. There is no cost to the applicant for any of these required checks and all training time is paid.

Schedule:
- Per Diem Mornings 5:30 am - 7:30 am
- Weekend and Holiday hours are negotiable
- Schedule may vary based on individual's schedule and needs
$19/hour
Location:

Education and Experience:
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred; one-year experience in the human service field preferred.
- Maintain a valid New York State driver’s license; a vehicle is required to perform the job
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be trained in all required trainings within 90 days of being hired and maintain current certifications with all required trainings
- Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills
- Must be 18 years or older
- Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported
