The Small Business Portfolio Manager I is responsible for administrative, technical, and professional work within the ERM function. This position is responsible for portfolio management, relationship management and leadership on all commercial relationships between $100,000 and $500,000.

Essential functions of the role:
Underwriting
- Review and evaluate loan applications (Small Business/Retail) following industry and business standards
- This includes the gathering, analysis, and interpretation of all types of credit/collateral information for existing and prospective banking customers in order to maximize credit, minimize risk/potential loss
- Preparation of Credit Memorandums supporting/documenting the disposition of applications under consideration to be approved within designated ILA and/or for management review/consideration
Portfolio Management
- Perform activities and conduct due diligence to manage and monitor commercial lending relationships including line renewals; line reviews; term loan renewals and collateral management
- Monitor and manage portfolio activities individually and/or jointly with Relationship Manager and other ERM functions
- Recommend and implement to credit to resolve credit or collateral weaknesses that affect the current or future likelihood of repayment
Compliance
- Adhere to all regulations regarding underwriting and reporting
- Stay abreast of new developments
- compile data and draft documents or reports as requested or necessary for the efficient administration of business
Business Banking Liaison
- Provide ongoing assistance for Business Banking to aid in the development of credit-related skills including underwriting standards, credit analysis and appropriate structuring of loan requests
SBA Underwriting/Analysis
- Responsible for the Underwriting/Analysis for SBA Loan requests within established procedural limits
- Act as Portfolio Manager directing SBA loan process as required. Point of contact and subject matter expert regarding SBA policies, loan analysis, credit documentation, and origination
Leadership
- Assist with daily mentoring of less experienced underwriters
Relationship Building
- Build rapport up, down and across the organization
- Establish collaborative relationships to achieve objectives
- Seek win-win solutions to conflict
- Develops network of professional contacts
- Displays empathy and tolerates diverse viewpoints.
Other duties as assigned within the scope and responsibility of the job
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance, or Level of education that, together with industry experience, enables the applicant to meet the job requirements.
- Minimum of three years overall banking experience required in growth-oriented commercial or consumer lending environment with experience in portfolio management and/or underwriting
- Two years Underwriting experience required. Minimum of two years of Underwriting experience related to commercial/consumer lending.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with large server-based applications and typical desktop software
