Material Handler Operator (Grapple/Mag)
Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Ferrous Crane Operator to join our team at EMR, a leading metal recycling facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining hydraulic cranes equipped with grapples and magnets to handle ferrous scrap materials. This role requires experience in heavy equipment operation, an understanding of metal recycling processes, and a commitment to workplace safety and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the Ferrous Crane Operator will work in an outdoor environment. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud, requiring ear protection.

Material Handler Operator (Grapple/Mag)

This role requires experience in heavy equipment operation, an understanding of metal recycling processes, and a commitment to workplace safety and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely and efficiently operate a hydraulic crane with grapple and magnet attachments to move, load, and stockpile ferrous scrap materials.
- Sort and process metal according to type, size, and quality specifications.
- Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance on crane equipment to ensure proper functioning and longevity.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with company safety and environmental regulations.
- Assist with general yard operations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on safety.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating hydraulic cranes or similar heavy machinery, preferably in a metal recycling or industrial setting.
- Knowledge of metal types, grades, and recycling processes are highly desirable.
- Construction, Forestry or Demolition experience is a plus.
While performing the essential functions of this job, the Ferrous Crane Operator will work in an outdoor environment. The employee may be near moving mechanical parts and will be exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud, requiring ear protection.
This position requires:
- Sitting, standing, and walking for long periods.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Working in confined spaces when necessary.
