JOB SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care under the direction of licensed staff and within the scope of defined practice. Demonstrates a commitment to accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills. Serves as a liaison between other departments ensuring communication and accurate records are available. Adheres to practice in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Performance that accomplishes patient and family centered care as central to practice and a foundation of caring, compassion, competence, communication, collaboration and teamwork. Responsible to participate in shared nursing leadership to accomplish positive outcomes, education, respect, dignity, and safety. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
ESSENTIAL PCT JOB DUTIES
Performs age specific Medical Surgical data collection.
- Reports significant Medical/ Surgical patient data to licensed nurses.
- Demonstrates communication skills appropriate for Medical/Surgical/family/support persons.
- Prioritizes Medical Surgical care to meet patient /family support person needs.
- Knowledgeable of and practices according to Medical surgical policies and procedures (Core measures, Blood vitals, Point of Care testing, etc.).
- Assesses age specific Medical Surgical safety issues (National Patient Safety Goals, Safe Patient Handling, Restraints, Pediatric Infant Abduction, etc.).
- Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills.
- Contributes to the achievement of the mission, vision, and values of the Organization.
- Contributes to the effective operations of the Organization by demonstrating dependability in job performance.
- Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating the core concepts of patient family centered care into practice (dignity, respect, information sharing, and participation).

- Other duties as assigned (Committee Participation and Unit specific performance audits, etc.).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Certification and/or eligible Nursing Assistant course and exam given by Kentucky Tech or another state which is accepted by the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry or completion of the National Healthcare Association (NHA) Patient Care Technician/Assistant program are preferred. Must maintain required CEUs.
Experience: One-year experience preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
Registration - Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry or NHA certification as a Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) preferred. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification (successful completion within three [3] months of employment).
