Job Description: Technical Writer

Reports to: Sr. Director, Proposals

Purpose: Support Proposal team in developing compelling and concise proposal content

Role Overview:

• Initiate strategic conversations with Business Development Directors (BDDs) and proposal team members to understand client goals, project requirements, and the company’s strategy to win
• Develop clear, concise, compelling, and engaging content reflecting client specific objectives and company’s winning solution to meet those objectives, value propositions, and differentiators
• Develop new content when needed, customize existing content, and share via a repository to benefit other proposals and enable efficiency
• Develop content for presentations and sales collateral to ensure consistent messaging across all client-facing materials
• Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with consistent voice across all documentation
• Ensure documents are accurate, complete, and adhere to standards for quality, format, and style
• Manage multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize assignments to meet proposal schedules

Qualifications:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong understanding of grammar, punctuation, clarity, readability, and consistency within content
• Proven ability to craft engaging content that captures client interest while maintaining accuracy and alignment with brand standards
• Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards in content development
• Ability to work in a self-directed manner, delegating tasks or asking for assistance where appropriate
• Ability to collaborate across decentralized, cross-functional departments
• Ability to influence without formal authority, ensuring all deadlines are met while driving a philosophy of service
• Ability to interpret and work from complex technical documents, such as RFPs
• Excellent time management and project prioritization skills, with the ability to consistently meet routine deadlines and work schedules
• Proactive problem-solving skills under challenging deadlines
• Ability to use knowledge gained through day-to-day activities to identify ways to improve processes and contribute to the proposal team’s overall efficiency
• Willingness to serve as an SME and resource for teammates and BDDs
• Demonstrated ability to write informative and persuasive documents for potential clients

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Communications, Journalism, or a related area (Master’s degree preferred)
• 3 years of professional writing and copywriting experience
• 5 years of related work experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro
• Proficient with Adobe InDesign
• Foodservice experience preferred
• Proposal writing experience preferred

Project management experience preferred
