Project Developer / Energy Engineer

 

Enabled Energy is a prominent consulting and general contractor firm specializing in retrofitting cutting-edge data centers across United States and Canada. We are dedicated to delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure and services to meet the ever-evolving demands of our clients. As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking an experienced Project Developer / Energy Engineer to join our Development team.

 

This role will manage the development of new projects from the Preliminary Scoping phase to the Final Contract for Enabled Energy’s turnkey energy conservation, reliability, and capacity projects. 

 

Travel expectations:  Approximately half of the projects this PD/EE will be responsible for will be for one client located in Ashburn, VA.  In addition, Enabled Energy pursues projects through the United States and Canada.   It is the role of the Project Developer (PD) to visit sites where projects are being scoped to verify as-built conditions as necessary.  Travel for this role is on an as-needed basis, but is estimated to be between 20% and 30% of the time if the candidate lives in the Ashburn, VA vicinity slightly higher if located outside of the area. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

·       Understand client needs and ensure they are maintained during scope development and in final documentation

·       Establish reasonable client expectations, be honest and forthright with the client and internal Enabled Energy

·       management staff on all aspects of the project being delivered.

·       Develop project scope, budget and schedule and manage through the development process.

·        Adherence to approved business development process steps; ensure key milestones, deliverables, and

·       necessary process tasks are consistently achieved.

·       Ability to close on project by discerning which issues require detail and which issues are not required.

·       Understand and mitigate risk exposure regarding construction cost, energy savings expectations/guarantees, and litigation exposure.

 

ENERGY ENGINEERING

·       Establish Baselines: Analyze baseline energy usage across the a clients portfolio prior to starting projects.  This includes identifying the projects that have significant energy savings and thus warrant additional support to achieve energy saving.

·       Estimate PUE Targets: Establish PUE targets for the client projects to provide project context and guide optimization efforts for each project.

·       Savings Analysis: Work closely with the stakeholders for each project to evaluate the proposed upgrades and quantify potential savings. This includes analyzing project designs and implementation strategies. Provide recommendations for additional energy savings when applicable.

·       Savings Verification: Provide reports regarding the final savings achieved for each project.

·       Sustainability Reporting: Provide reports regarding the final carbon reduction achieved in each project.

 

REBATE MANAGEMENT

·       Annual Rebate Business Case Analysis: Conduct a comprehensive business case analysis to determine the financial and operational benefits of participating in a utility’s rebate/incentive program. This analysis will include:

o   Program Benefits: Perform a detailed review of the rebate structures, potential financial benefits, and alignment with project goals.

·       Program Requirements: Assess program eligibility requirements, application processes, and any  associated obligations.

·       Cost-Benefit Evaluation: Compare the costs and administrative efforts required to participate in the program against the potential savings and benefits.

·       Opt-In/Opt-Out Recommendations: Provide clear recommendations on whether to opt into or out of the rebate program based on the analysis.

·       Rebate Administration: Depending on the outcome of the Rebate Business Case Analysis and a client’s decision whether to Opt-In, EE’s services will focus on:

o   Identification of relevant rebate programs and financial incentives available for the projects.

·       Preparing and submitting rebate applications and documentation.

·       Measurement & Verification support: ensure appropriate M&V is included to meet rebate requirements and oversee the key M&V tasks. This includes working with the utilities to build protocol that is cost effective and appropriate for the retrofits or technologies. EE will also help oversee M&V to streamline rebate processing and utility interaction.

o   Tracking and ensuring receipt of all eligible financial benefits.

 

SPECIFIC PROJECT REPRESENTATION

If a client requires, provide the following for specific projects:

·       Advocacy: Serve as the primary advocate for energy efficiency initiatives across an entire project portfolio.

·       Alignment: Provide strategic oversight and guidance to ensure alignment with sustainability goals. Facilitate communication between stakeholders, including owners, contractors, and regulatory bodies. Provide technical expertise and advisement on energy-saving technologies and practices.

·       Consistency: Ensure consistent application of best practices and Digital Realty standards across all projects.

·       Portfolio Monitoring: With the assistance of EE’s project managers, monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

·       Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with energy efficiency projects.

·       Compliance: Support compliance with energy regulations and industry standards across the portfolio.

·       Planning: Recommend and implement strategies for continuous improvement in energy efficiency.

·       Portfolio Gap Management: Develop and execute strategies to address identified implementation gaps. If requested by a client, assist EE sales team to develop proposals to fill gaps and/or provide additional project implementation capabilities.

·       Regular Reporting: Providing regular updates and reports on project status, savings progress, rebate progress, and any issues or risks as requested.

Preferred

·       Working knowledge of data center/mission-critical infrastructure.

·       Experience with Liebert AM/AG and iCOM controls.

·       At least ten years of experience in energy engineering.

·       Experience in project development.
