The primary responsibility of our Receptionist is to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents, and visitors in the private day school setting in Roanoke, VA. The Receptionist also completes administrative tasks and supports school administration. MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES

  • Ability to serve as a mandated reporter of suspected or reported child and adult abuse and neglect.
  • Must possess sensitivity to confidential information and hold a high standard of integrity.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students and families, staff, colleagues, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Valid Virginia Drivers' License and proof of insurance.
  • Satisfactory Driving Record in compliance with Driver Requirement Policy.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Intermediate computer skills working with Microsoft Office products required.
  • Experience using a Student Information System (ex. PowerSchool) preferred.
  • Knowledge of good telephone etiquette with the ability to deal tactfully and confidently with callers and visitors.
  • Strong organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
  • Work with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with others, and the ability to work as part of a team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions : May be required to perform any of the following duties :

  • Serve as a mandated reporter of suspected or reported child or adult abuse and neglect. Adherence to all related school, division, agency, and state policy, procedure, protocol, or legal requirement.
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or immediate safety threats directly to school administration as soon as possible.
  • Report non-safety concerns related to the preservation of student rights and dignity to supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as requested by supervisor.
  • Monitor physical access to the school through the main entrance.
  • Answer incoming phone calls in a pleasant, informed manner for the purpose of providing and creating a positive image and first impression of the school.
  • Greet all incoming students, families, and guests respectfully and professionally, determining their needs, checking scheduled appointments, and directing them to the proper person.
  • Require all visitors to sign in and identify themselves. Check required identification of visitors and provide them with a visitor badge as needed.
  • Check voice mail messages left in school's general mailbox on a routine basis and distribute accordingly those messages needing immediate attention.
  • Monitor student attendance.
  • Work closely with medication manager(s) and administration regarding student care.
  • Manage lost and found.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail, documents, books, materials, and supplies following established procedures and deliver mail and other material to staff as needed.
  • Receive deliveries and arrange for distribution to proper locations and / or recipients.
  • Schedule meetings, appointments, tours, parent-teacher conferences, and use of school resources (vehicles, conference room, etc.) as needed.
  • Maintain AM and PM student transportation information to facilitate accuracy and efficiency during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
  • Assist with special events at the school as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • M-F 8 : 0am-4 : 00pm
  • Salary and Benefits :

  • Minimum starting pay for a receptionist is $15.75 per hour (commensurate with experience).
