Description

2nd Story is an alternative residential program serving six guests, providing recovery-oriented peer support for adults in crisis or distress, who are coming out of or seeking to avoid a psychiatric hospitalization or further life disruption. 2nd Story is operated by peers and shares in an opportunity to experience life’s changes with others, and to learn new responses through relationships with each other. 2nd Story is open to possibilities beyond the medical model of mental health care. We strive to co-create new life paths as defined by the individual.   
 
Job Summary:   
We currently have an opening for a full-time Manager at 2nd Story Peer Respite House, located in Santa Cruz, California. Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of residential services of Encompass Community Services, the manager will be responsible for assuring a supportive, collaborative, and healing environment. This is done by supporting teammates to gain and maintain skills as peer support specialists. The manager will foster an environment that focuses on mutual learning, connection, and personal growth as the path to cultivate a sense of health and well-being for both teammates and guests. Making space for guest autonomy and team cohesion affords the chance for community building. The manager will guide teammates to remain available to any guest having difficulties and offer support with dignity and respect.    
 
Duties & Responsibilities:   
Personnel: Annual reviews of team, regular supervision of teammates. Approval of payroll, timecards, time off requests, and expense reimbursements. Responsible for oversight of the schedule.   
Hiring and Termination: Adhere to standards according to 2nd Story’s values, mission, and vision statements, while also adhering to Encompass policy and procedures.    
Meetings: Facilitating biweekly team meetings, attending biweekly manager meetings, safety committee meetings, County Housing Council meetings, Encompass All Staff Meetings. Monthly National Respite Coalition (may attend separate workgroup meetings). Quarterly County QI meetings.     
Trainings: Orient new teammates to 2nd Story upon hiring. Monitor team training requirements of 6 cultural competency training courses, Encompass required Relias trainings, peer certification requirements, Intentional Peer Support trainings twice a month. Coordinate with Encompass training team to support team learning in mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, CBT, DBT, etc.   
Expenses: approve petty cash, manage Divvy credit card account, assist house staying within budget, oversight of subscriptions.   
Occupancy: Oversight of census as per county contractual agreement. Assuring census and waitlist is sent daily.   
Guest Satisfaction: Making sure there is healthy food available for guests and assuring outings are organized on a routine basis. Keep to contractual commitment with guest satisfaction survey completion to inform team of successes and areas of growth.   
Community Stakeholders: Maintain respectful relationships with varying stakeholders at the local, state, and national levels. Build upon and maintain relationships with local community organizations.  
  
Qualifications:   
Priority in hiring will go to “peers” or people with lived mental health experiences. This is defined as a person who can inspire hope by openly sharing their experiences of recovery from extreme emotional distress. This may have meant having a diagnosis, being hospitalized, and receiving services for nine months to a lifetime. This person has learned through their challenges, remains open to life experiences, and ready to give back to their community. Please discuss your experience in your cover letter.   
•    Bachelor's degree in psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or another related field preferred.  High School Diploma or GED required.   
•    Minimum of 2 years of related experience with management and working with individuals who have mental health and potentially co-occurring challenges.  
•    Previous experience with the peer respite model.   
•    Ability to work independently, with teammates, and manage time well.     
•    Experience leading and building teams and implementing improvement processes.  
•    Flexible schedule to support on-call crisis needs for all shifts (including overnight).   
•    Ability to positively role model optimum health by taking breaks and creating a climate of self-care, comfort, and ease.   
•    Demonstrated ability to organize and complete tasks.   
•    Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.   
•    Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment.   
•    Must have a vehicle, valid CA driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and good driving record to be covered by our agency insurance.   
•    Must be able to pass a criminal record clearance.
