Instrument Operator

Summary:

Responsible for assisting with field surveying activities, including maintenance of survey equipment. Reports to the Party Chief. Keeps abreast of the latest surveying methods and recommends revisions to the surveying procedures to the Party Chief as identified.

Responsibilities:

•  Work as a member of a survey crew performing boundary, topography, ALTA, right of way, and construction surveys for public and private clients
• Set-up and operate survey equipment, including total-station, data-collector, level, and GPS
• Perform survey calculations
• Perform all aspects of stakeout and locations surveys using applicable survey equipment
•  Maintain survey equipment used and keep survey truck stocked with necessary supplies and tools
• Coordinate work of assigned subordinate personnel
• Assist and train personnel in lower-level positions
• Make accuracy and calibration checks and adjustments on equipment used

Required Skills and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of  (1-3) years of experience working on a land surveying party
• Familiar with field procedures for performing boundary and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys
• Ability to perform all aspects of data collected field fun topographic surveys, road frontage cross-section surveys and as-built surveys
• Through knowledge of total station, GPS and data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies
• Ability to work outside in all seasons
• Must be willing to travel
